Coming down off the vacay high

I'm back. Well, sort of. Physically, I made it back to France late Monday afternoon, but mentally, I'm still in Koh Samui. I wasn't ready to leave there, and I certainly wasn't ready to get back to my life here. But all good things must come to an end, right?

I have to go back to work today in just over an hour. I have no motivation at all, and to make things worse, it's grey and rainy this morning. I'll also have to drive again after weeks without practice. Le sigh.

I know my family and friends are looking forward to seeing some pictures (and maybe even my blog readers too!), but I don't have the time or energy to sift through all 700 pictures and video today. It's my weekend plan (after a much needed trip to an English speaking hairdresser on Saturday), and I hope I'll be in better spirits by then.

So in the meantime, here is a mish mash of some of my favourite pics from our time in Koh Samui :) More to come soon!

Max decked out in his boxing gear during one of the training sessions he'd take part in during our time there. He came home with a body full of bruises, a sore back, and a black eye, but also some amazing memories. (I had to take this photo hiding outside the boxing ring. The Thai trainers didn't really like people taking pictures and video during the training sessions, so I had to be sneaky about it)

We took a day trip with our new Canadian friends (vet students I met at the animal shelter) to Angthong National Marine Park. It's an archipelago of 42 small islands about an hour north west of Koh Samui. We went snorkelling, kayaking, and sightseeing. Absolutely breathtaking (and also about 45°C that day)

Angthong Marine Park...I can't remember the name of this island, but it was so postcard pretty, I had to catch my breath upon arriving.

In front of many beautifully decorated Buddhist shrines all over Thailand. The Thai people leave food and drinks on, or in front of, the shrines daily. I often saw many stray dogs helping themselves to this buffet.

Looking positively scary in my snorkelling gear. They literally stopped the boat next to that huge rock in the water and told us to jump in. The water closest to the rock was about 20 feet deep, so we had to wear life jackets. I saw tons of beautiful tropical fish (reminiscent of Finding Nemo), and coral of all shapes and colours. A highlight of the trip for sure.

Skeletor on the beach in Chaweng. The first week was a bit overcast and rainy, but the second week, we had nothing but blue skies and hot, hot weather. I did come back tanned, but it will be gone by the weekend :(

Paw prints in the sand on Chaweng beach. I'll dedicate a whole post to the bébés of Koh Samui when I'm ready. I still can't really talk (or write) about it without getting upset. What I did and what I saw during my time there was so rewarding, yet so shocking, that I need to time to process all the emotions. It was part of the trip that I'll never, ever forget.

Max showing off his Buddha tattoo in a Buddhist garden. We went on a tour of the island on Max's birthday and saw some great things. Koh Samui is a magical place.

Sounds like a magical trip! Just tell me, was the water really that crystal clear? I'm dying to go to a place with water like that. I remember you posting about how you had a goal to be less frugal and travel to some of your dream destinations. You have done it, girl!

Mil - the water really is that clear, and from a distance, it sparkles in shades of turquoise. I'm beginning to realize that travel is the only thing you spend money on that makes you richer :)

EvRev-I'd rather just donate to the association I volunteered at :) They are doing the best the can with the resources they have available, but they still need more help. www.samuidog.org

Can't wait to hear more about it! I've got your postcard on my mirror in the bathroom staring back at me every morning :) Wish I could see it for myself! can't wait to catch up when you are back on France time. xx

Oh my goodness! This pictures are fantastic, and of course I can't wait to see more when you're ready.

My dad volunteers at a rescue - helping to train horses so that that some day the can find good homes - and he says the same, it's super rewarding, but super super hard too.
